A Brief History of Jordan 5

Posted by Richard Cooke on

The Jordan 5 sneakers were first released in 1990, and they represented another significant step forward in the evolution of the Jordan line. Designed by Tinker Hatfield once again, the Jordan 5 was inspired by Michael Jordan's love of flight, and it featured a sleek, aerodynamic design that was unlike anything that had come before.

One of the most distinctive features of the Jordan 5 is the shark-tooth pattern on the midsole, which was inspired by the nose art on World War II fighter planes. The shoe also featured a clear rubber outsole, which provided additional grip and allowed for the Jumpman logo to be visible from underneath.

The Jordan 5 was released in a number of colorways, including the iconic "Grape" and "Fire Red" versions. Michael Jordan wore the "Grape" version during the 1990 NBA playoffs, and it has since become one of the most beloved and sought-after sneakers in the world.

In addition to its distinctive design and colorways, the Jordan 5 was also notable for its innovative features. The shoe introduced a new lace lock system, which allowed for a more secure and customizable fit, and it also featured a padded collar and tongue for additional comfort and support.

Over the years, the Jordan 5 has continued to be a popular and influential sneaker. It has been released in numerous collaborations and special editions, and it has inspired countless imitators and copycats. Today, the Jordan 5 remains a beloved piece of sneaker history, and it is a testament to the enduring legacy of Michael Jordan and the Jordan line.
