MY FIRST SNEAKER: Nike Airforce 1 (1994)

Posted by Aakifah Jacobs on

'The first pair of sneakers I ever bought with my own money (albeit birthday money) way back in March 1994 was the Nike Air Force 1.

I was the first kid in school to have a pair but, that didn’t last long.

By the start of the next school year over 70% of my classmates were turning up to gym class in these crisp white beauties.

Since then, I’ve averaged two pairs a year, and not because the build quality was poor, I just love them when they’re fresh and bright.

My love for the AF1 White is just as strong today, such a versatile sneaker pairing with any outfit, from jeans to shorts and they even look cool at the foot of a casual linen suit. If I was told I could only wear one pair of sneakers for the rest of my life the Air Force 1 would surely be a contender. With a smooth leather finish and uncomplicated paneling, they are the ideal canvas for the sneaker customizer, the options are endless to how cool and different this simplistic yet stunning pair can be.

In my opinion it was the AF1 that really put Nike on the map in 1982 and they’re still going strong to this day, if there’s as such a thing as historic modernism then this is it!'
