A Brief History of Jordan 4's

Posted by Richard Cooke on

The Jordan 4 sneakers were first released in 1989, and they marked another major milestone in the history of the Jordan line. Designed again by Tinker Hatfield, the Jordan 4 was the first shoe in the series to feature multiple colorways, and it was also the first shoe to be released in China.

The design of the Jordan 4 was inspired by Michael Jordan's own love of motorsports, and the shoe features distinctive details such as the plastic wing eyelets and the mesh side panels. The shoe also introduced a new "Flight" logo on the tongue, which was designed to reflect Michael Jordan's soaring style of play.

Like the Jordan 3, the Jordan 4 was not an immediate success. Nike had been struggling financially at the time of the shoe's release, and many retailers were hesitant to stock it. However, the shoe's fortunes changed when Michael Jordan wore it during the 1989 NBA playoffs, including during the famous "shot" against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Over the years, the Jordan 4 has become one of the most popular and iconic sneakers of all time. It has been released in countless colorways and collaborations, and it remains a popular choice for both basketball players and sneaker enthusiasts.

One of the most famous colorways of the Jordan 4 is the "Bred" version, which features a black and red color scheme. This shoe has become one of the most sought-after sneakers in the world, and it is considered by many to be a holy grail of sneaker collecting.

In recent years, Jordan Brand has continued to release new versions of the Jordan 4, including collaborations with designers like Virgil Abloh and Travis Scott. These releases have helped to keep the shoe fresh and relevant, and they have ensured that the Jordan 4 will continue to be a beloved piece of sneaker history for years to come.
